Job Title: Childcare Resource Education Specialist

JOB SUMMARY
The Childcare Resource Education Specialist is responsible for providing expert guidance and support to childcare providers and educators in implementing best practices and strategies to enhance the quality of care and education for young children. This role involves developing and delivering training programs and offering resources and tools to improve the overall quality and capacity of childcare services in Aroostook County. The specialist is a collaborative partner working with a stakeholder group, area employers, higher education institutions, childcare providers, parents, guardians, and case managers within Aroostook County. This position will be an advocate for current and future childcare providers.


MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Masters degree preferred or minimum Bachelors level degree in early Childhood Education or related field with at least three years’ experience.


PREFERRED EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
The state of Maine requires that all individuals working in childcare facilities have background checks.
Knowledge of current early childhood regulations.
Experience working with or providing outreach service and strategies.
Experience training early childhood professionals.
Knowledge of infant and child development.
Ability to establish trusting relationships.
Ability to travel throughout Aroostook County with own vehicle.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Other duties may be assigned.
Work and cooperate with United Way Aroostook employees, board and childcare stakeholder group.
Learn and perform all essential functions.
Provide direct services to support childcare programs/providers focused on the developmental, environmental, programmatic and material needs to meet their outcomes.
Implement and deliver the MRTQ Core Knowledge Training to help childcare providers increase quality programming.
Serve as a resource person by providing career development choices on an on-going basis.
Identify the needs of providers and share information with stakeholders.
Maintain written documentation of training for providers.
Provide childcare providers, directors, parents, and employers with applicable resource materials in the form of pamphlets, literature, and curriculum materials and demonstrate how they can be used effectively in the care setting.
Assist with recommendations and referrals when necessary.
Establish strong relationships with the childcare community and act as a liaison.
Maintain an up-to-date listing of all licensed and legal providers with openings to provide when asked.
Create and train a staffing support system for childcare providers.
Provide training for Human Resource Departments on childcare legislation changes, resources for employees and available slots at childcare providers.
Participate in meetings as needed with stakeholders to discuss progress, challenges, and other issues as they arise.
Participate in professional development opportunities.
Assist with and/or provide support for trainings at the ACCRC or on-sites.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or listen. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk, sit; and use hands to touch, handle, or feel. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Employee must be able to drive to childcare providers and trainings.
This is a field/technical position with work typically performed in both office and field settings and requiring the ability to maneuver in and around such settings. Travel to outlying areas in inclement weather.


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS
Possession of a valid driver’s license.
